जब पूरी दुनिया कोरोना वायरस पर काबू पाने में लगी हुई थी, इस बीच उनका ध्यान एक ऐसे घातक वायरस से हट गया, जो आकार में कोरोना से 4 गुना छोटा है, लेकिन उससे 4 गुना तेजी से फैलता है. इस वायरस का नाम पोलियो है, जिसके कारण हजारों सालों से मानव युद्ध जारी है। अफगानिस्तान में गृहयुद्ध जैसे हालात और पाकिस्तान में बाढ़ के कारण इस साल दोनों देशों में पोलियो के मामले बढ़े हैं। जिससे भारत में खासकर सीमा से सटे राजस्थान में इस वायरस के फैलने का खतरा बना हुआ है।

UNICEF के मुताबिक कोविड की वजह से पूरी दुनिया का ध्यान इससे लड़ने पर लगा था. ऐसे में दुनिया भर में 23 मिलियन बच्चों को समय पर पोलियो की दवा नहीं मिल पाई। इनमें पाकिस्तान और भारत के 40 लाख बच्चे शामिल हैं। अगर टीकाकरण नहीं हो सका तो लोगों की वायरस से लड़ने की प्रतिरोधक क्षमता भी कमजोर हो गई और वायरस फैलने लगा।
