मुंबई के पॉश जुहू इलाके में स्थित बीआर चोपड़ा का 25 हजार वर्ग फुट का बंगला अमिताभ बच्चन के बंगलों ‘प्रतिक्षा’ और ‘जलसा’ के साथ-साथ शाहरुख खान के बंगले ‘मन्नत’ की तरह काफी लोकप्रिय रहा है। जिस तरह से देहात से आने वाले लोग मुंबई पहुंचते ही अमिताभ बच्चन और शाहरुख खान के बंगले को देखने जाते हैं, उसी तरह लोग बीआर चोपड़ा के बंगले को देखने भी जाया करते थे. ‘महाभारत’ सीरियल के दिनों में यहां दिन-रात मेला लगता था और बंगले के पास की दुकानों में गुलजार रहता था।

उत्तर प्रदेश के सुल्तानपुर निवासी विकास यादव की बीआर चोपड़ा के बंगले के पास पान की दुकान है. वह कहते हैं, ‘एक समय था जब लोग हमारी दुकान पर खड़े होकर बीआर चोपड़ा और महाभारत के बारे में बात करते थे। उन दिनों बड़े सितारे बीआर चोपड़ा के बंगले पर जाया करते थे। लोग मेरी दुकान पर खड़े होकर उन सितारों को आते-जाते देखते थे। लेकिन अब मेरी दुकान में पहले की तरह भीड़ नहीं है। चलते-चलते कुछ लोग और ऑटो वाले आते हैं।

Vikas Yadav, a resident of Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh, has a paan shop near the bungalow of BR Chopra. He says, ‘There was a time when people used to stand at our shop and talk about BR Chopra and Mahabharata. In those days big stars used to visit BR Chopra’s bungalow. People used to stand at my shop and watch those stars come and go. But now my shop is not as crowded as before. Some people and auto people come while walking.

बीआर चोपड़ा के बंगले की बिक्री के पीछे बड़ी वजह बीआर फिल्म्स की आर्थिक स्थिति को माना जा रहा है। हॉलीवुड स्टूडियो ट्वेंटिएथ सेंचुरी फॉक्स द्वारा दायर मुकदमे के निपटारे में बीआर फिल्म्स के वारिस रवि चोपड़ा की वित्तीय स्थिति कंपनी की फिल्म ‘बंदा ये बिंदास है’ को उनकी फिल्म ‘माई कजिन विनी’ का अवैध रीमेक बताया गया था। लंबे समय से चल रहे आर्थिक बोझ को देखते हुए रवि की पत्नी रेणु ने इस बंगले को इसी साल 183 करोड़ रुपये में बेच दिया।

In view of the long running financial burden, Ravi’s wife Renu sold this bungalow for Rs 183 crore this year.
